EMPEROR Production Notes

I want to make a top-heavy tech costume! and created the techwear “EMPEROR”!
The neck warmer that hides the chin is a charm point, but there were several difficulties in making it.
I will write about such a difficult part of the project.

1. design draft

Designed by Kosawa Efuru! https://twitter.com/WELF_KOTAKU
The name of the costume, “EMPEROR” (emperor), is derived from the penguin, and the motif is based on penguins!
Once I received this design, I was convinced that it would be a very good costume!
I think we just barely managed to make it without losing the design! (Sweat

2. the difficult part of the chin-hiding neck warmer

The main issue is the chin-hiding neck warmer.
I love this design, but I have a hard time one day when making it as an avatar costume.

Specifically, the following three points are trade-offs, and a compromise must be sought and made.
A. Need to make the neck area wider to account for penetration.
B. to make the neck area wide enough to allow the neck warmer to be in view
C. Trying to avoid B with head weights makes it unnatural when moving the neck

A. Need to make the neck area wider to account for penetration.

When concealed around the neck, it penetrates when the head is turned down or when the head is tilted.
Even allowing for some penetration, it was necessary to make the neck warmer with an opening and height about that of the “final product” shown in the figure below.
*The higher up the neck warmer, the easier it is to penetrate.

Design
The final product
e.g.: Narrow neck, easy to get stuck.
e.g.: Wide neck makes it hard to slide in.

B. Considering A, if you make the neck area wider, the neck warmer will be in view

As a result of the large neck circumference to prevent penetration, the neck warmer comes into view like this when looking down in VRChat.
Collars in view are quite stressful and should be avoided.
*If you pull your chin as hard as you can, you can get a little bit of visibility.

Wider neck circumference
Pulling back on the jaw will not penetrate.
Neck warmer is out of sight.

C. Trying to avoid A and B with head weights makes it unnatural when moving the neck

In extreme cases, if the neck warmer is heavily coated with head weights, problems A and B can be avoided.
However, it loses its shape when the neck is moved .
In addition, it does not hide the chin! This is not the end of the world, so we can only apply the weights loosely.

Example: Head weight 1.0
It won’t penetrate, but it won’t hide your chin…

3. how did you finally make it?

  • The front of the neck warmer is made to fit around the chin of the face
  • So that the nose just barely penetrates when you turn your head to the side.
  • Thin weights (or better yet, no weights)
Make to fit around the chin of the face
Adjusted so that the nose just barely penetrates when the face is turned down.
Weights are only to be added.

Conclusion

The following are some of the difficult parts of creating a chin-hiding design.
Personally, I love the chin-hiding design and hope it is helpful!

Thank you very much, glossy efuru, for your wonderful design!
Thank you again!

I’d love it if you could post your thoughts on X with the tag #AvatarDressing!
*We are turning off the comments section due to site security/load issues…

You can look at the costumes and tell me if you like!
